Physical quantity changes the meaning of these headline values. China imports about 60.4 million kg in the HS 410431 table, equal to an implied unit value near $13.00 per kg, while France imports only 5.77 million kg but carries about $46.56 per kg. The United States sits near $27.56 per kg, Mexico around $25.98 and India around $8.71. These differences do not prove grade, finish or profitability, but they show why value and mass should be read together.

HS 410439 produces a markedly different geographic picture from HS 410431. Indonesia leads at $430.9 million and about 37.7 million kg, giving it an implied unit value near $11.43 per kg. Thailand follows at $249.9 million on 16.5 million kg, or roughly $15.18 per kg, while Cambodia reaches $126.4 million on 9.46 million kg, about $13.35 per kg. These three markets place Southeast Asian manufacturing at the center of the prepared-leather table.

The United States remains significant at $100.2 million and around 4.39 million kg. The European Union records $83.9 million, India $73.6 million, China $70.6 million and Germany $69.0 million. Romania and Italy complete the leading ten at $54.3 million and $53.4 million respectively. The rank order is a reminder that a country can be prominent in one processing stage without leading another.

Grain and structural integrity receive 17%, the highest individual weight, because the material must remain sound before any surface effect can be considered premium. Distress authenticity and surface character receive 16%, rewarding a finish that looks intentional and coherent rather than random or artificially printed.

Finish stability and durability receive 15%, while wear and patina performance receive 14%. These pillars distinguish first-day appearance from what happens after flexing, scratching, polishing and handling. Cutting yield and defect control receive 12% because a beautiful swatch is commercially weak if large panels cannot be cut consistently. Handfeel and flexibility receive 10%, traceability and specification clarity 9%, and commercial and lifecycle value 7%.
