India stands out in the selected 2024 processed-hair export data at approximately 574.37 million dollars on about 4.75 million kilograms. China follows at roughly 209.25 million dollars on approximately 2.79 million kilograms, while Myanmar records about 54.78 million dollars on more than 5.2 million kilograms. The contrast between value and physical volume shows why trade data should be read as product-mix signals rather than direct quality rankings.

Other processed-hair exporters include Austria, Italy, the European Union aggregate, the United States and Tunisia. Their values are much smaller than India's and China's in the selected dataset, but they illustrate that processing and re-export activity occurs across several regions. Countries such as Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria, South Africa and Indonesia appear at different scales, creating a long tail of sourcing and processing participation.

Finished human-hair article imports reveal a different geography. The United States leads the selected 2024 import table at about 768.93 million dollars, followed by China at roughly 193.76 million dollars and the European Union aggregate near 171.27 million dollars.

Derived Unit Value and Supply-Chain Value Addition

Trade value becomes more informative when it is compared with reported physical quantity. Dividing customs value by kilograms creates a derived unit-value indicator that helps show how product mix and processing stage affect economic value. It is not a retail price and should not be treated as the selling price of a specific bundle. Different reporting practices and product compositions can also produce large differences between countries.

In the processed-hair export dataset, India's 2024 combination of value and quantity produces a derived average near 120.87 dollars per kilogram, compared with roughly 74.89 dollars per kilogram for China and about 10.50 dollars per kilogram for Myanmar. Smaller exporters can show very different averages because their product mix may be more specialized.

Finished imports can carry much higher unit-value signals because the category includes manufactured human-hair articles rather than prepared hair alone. The United States, for example, combines a large import value with a lower physical tonnage than some markets, creating a high value-per-kilogram indicator. This is consistent with the idea that finished systems, branding, construction and retail-ready products add economic value beyond the upstream fiber.

For quality analysis, the role of unit value is therefore contextual. It can help identify stages where value is being added, but it cannot prove Remy alignment, black-shade accuracy, softness, ethical sourcing or lifecycle durability. Those attributes still require product-level evidence.

The Black Hair Extension Quality Index converts the report into eight weighted pillars totaling 100 points. Shade accuracy and undertone receive 16 percent because black extension failure is immediately visible when depth or warmth does not blend.

Remy alignment and consistency receive 12 percent. Alignment matters strongly for friction, but it should not outweigh the physical condition created by processing. Density and construction receive another 12 percent because grams, length and base architecture determine whether the hair looks integrated on the head. Wash and condition recovery receive 11 percent, rewarding hair that returns to manageable condition after factory finish is removed.
